Okay. First off, I would like to apologize to those who are waiting for the next pages for Amy Rose and the Runaway Chimera comic. My Animation/Illustration Fundamental class has a high policy of turning in work ON TIME, and Life Drawing involves anatomy, skeletons, and muscles which I have problems with. I am going to be very busy on these weeks and will be managing my time, so I am sorry for not updating. If there is time for me to work on the comics, I would work on it and post it up on one of these days.
Now, for the ranting. If those who do not want to hear my rants of anger, go to the next page. My cousin was planning for a fanfiction on Naruto (which is now common in the daily life) and wanted to put OCs in it. I was okay with it until I had to put up some rules for OCs. There are MANY fanfictions about Naruto, Danny Phantom, Sonic the Hedgehog, Twilight, etc, etc. I understand that we all have wild imaginations for beginnings and endings for our favorite category, and I understand that we want these to have a happy (or sad if you guys want it to be) ending with the main characters or the pairings we like the best. I have no problems or arguments about our opinions. But what bugs me is about the OCs many people created.
OC, or original character, is made by an author who wants to include his/her character into a show, game, book, etc. He (or mostly she, since there are many fangirls out there) modifies the character's appearance, gender, and personality. He/She, then, creates a past that identifies the character or causes the character to become like the person it is supposed to be. This was then placed into a certain selection to act out in the story, making the character an original character. The OC has become friends of the original main characters through a certain present and is helping the characters reach their goal. They support their newfound friends and help them fight minor enemies for the main characters to fight off the boss. Horray! They won! Peace is restored. However, people have forgotten the purpose of the copyrighted selections and the traits of the other characters, and they have made the original, and created, characters the main focus, or the main hero/heroine, of the whole story.
This "main" attraction just killed the story. Thank you oh so very much.
Here are the plans of how an OC is created through my own:
-OCs must have a unique trait and a unique name different from any other characters. Do not take physical appearances or traits from the created characters. (Take Heiwa Kazeru from my fanfiction, Twin Bladed Shinigami. She looks like an ordinary character with long, brown hair, brown eyes, and glasses to look like she is smart, but she is a Shinigami. Her name means "Peace", and her last name means "Wind".)
-OCs must have something they want to strive for. Do not let them have a dark past or somewhere like getting revenge against the main enemy. (Heiwa wants to figure out how the world works, where Hollows come from originally, where do souls come from exactly, and what unique techniques are in the translated papers. She is not after Hollows who tried to kill her friends, but she is helping her friends purify the Hollows to protect THEIR town.)
-OCs must be introduced as a side character or a secondary character. They are HELPING the main character reach their goal through different plans and direction. (Heiwa will help Karin sometimes, but not all the time. She is at Soul Society helping the 9th division, and Karin's missions involve a LOT of Real World patrols.)
-OCs must have a relationship of another OC, but if they have a relationship with the created characters, it can be friendship or can be in love with ONE character. You don't know how many OCs having one too many relationships with a lot of characters. Your character isn't a hottie to have all the guys/girls and leave the unwanted characters behind. Pick one, and describe how the OC and the character see in each other or knows each other in good and bad ways. If the created character has a love interest, make the love interest go violent or believe that the relationship will not last. Don't make the created character diss the love interest and make the former love interest cry like a baby. You're making the created character a jerk, and it reflects on both your OC and you. (Heiwa doesn't have big breasts like Rangiku's nor wears a very short kimono like Nemu. She is just plain, and she sees in her love interest a good, ideal man. However, she is disappointed that he is take her as someone else.)
-If action/adventure is taking place in your story, make your character WEAKER and have a different way of attacking. They are not STRONGER than the created characters, and they did not save everyone from devastation with the powers of the created characters. (Heiwa could only defend her comrades, and she could only defend as much as she can. She can't defend everyone unless she become better on her defense. She could only attack short range and long range, but her attacks are weaker.)
-OCs ALWAYS, ALWAYS have at least a few strengths and weaknesses. Your OCs are not angels from heaven or perfect immortal beings aka Mary-Sues. Your OCs are mortal living creatures that have one life and have made mistakes. Love ones getting hurt does not count as a weakness because that's a moral issue, not a personal issue. (Heiwa has a very good defense and is very intelligent, but she can be depressed at times and have a temper. Her depression is a personal issue and can fog her conscience by the thoughts of being not accepted and her mother, and her temper can make people uncomfortable.)
EDIT: Ah yes. Thank you XxOreoStarxX for reminding me about originality. I tend to miss out other points while ranting.
-OCs MUST, and this is a BIG MUST, be shaped and colored by YOUR OWN IDEAS. You cannot take a created character, compromise his/her genetic traits, crop his/her physical image, and call your OC your own. That character isn't your art. Where's your proof of art skills? When the lining is good, then why is the coloring and the shape of it look so bad? Unless you have a VERY GOOD art skill that is almost precise to the author's/artist's art skill, you are absolutely PLAGIARIZING someone's artwork. You have both a left and a right side of the brain. Use them. (Heiwa Kazeru has long brown hair which she could tie it into a low ponytail, wears glasses, have sharp eyes, tan skin, and thinks a lot. She isn't based off a form of Rukia with short hair and small or copied from Orihime with large "assets".)
If you don't know what plagiarism is (I swear if you know what what plagiarism is and still do it, I will throw my dictionaries, thesauruses, encyclopedia books, library books, my very own laptops, and my humongous PC at your window with a "I VOTE YOU THE NO. 1 DOUCHEBAG IN THE UNIVERSE" note on the screen.), it is a copying a person's work and claiming his/her work as your own. You do not want this little parasite eating your guts and bursting through your stomach with your leftover guts on the sidewalk. This will get you into a lot of trouble in all schools and all jobs. It will affect your academic records, your work, and your life because you copied a person's work without citing.
Whew! That was a long rant. If you think this information has helped you, please comment. If not, then go ahead and say it.
